 | 10:19 am I'm considering selling my 55 gallon fish tank. You will get the tank, lids with lights, a filter, a heater, all the rocks and decorations you will need, as well as chemicals and food and other accessories (nets, algae scraper, etc), and the stand. I will even throw in several 5 gallon buckets with lids that you can use to transport as much of the water as you want, since having water that is already bacteria rich is definitely a plus.
I'm willing to sell it for a VERY reasonable price of $250. There is just one catch; there are still fish in it. I have 5 black skirt tetras, 2 silver dollars, and a parrot fish. They have all been with me for over 2 years, some longer, and get along fine with each other, and probably other fish as well depending on what they are. You could keep them or find them a new home.
If anybody is interested in just taking the fish off my hands, I would be willing to do that as well.
Anyway I'm just trying to see what the interest is. Reply here or contact me.

 | 11:12 am I am considering jailbreaking my iPhone. I've been doing some research, and it seems as though I could benefit a great deal from doing this, but there are some downsides too, even though chances are slim.
Does anybody have an opinion on this?

 | 09:11 am - More Tablet Madness Rumor has it that MSFT will reveal its own tablet offering during CES today. Apple scheduled the announcement of its own tablet about two weeks after CES, meaning that Jobs is pretty darn confident.
Your responses yesterday gave me some idea why tablets are useful in specialty fields. It's still hard for me to imagine them as having widespread appeal. Maybe very large people could use them as iPods.

 | 05:39 pm - iDunno As much as I love Apple products, I'm a bit confused by the idea behind the impending tablet. Rumors place it between $600-$900, which means it's not really competing with the Kindle/Nook even if it is the world's best e-book reader. Honestly, I can't imagine any situation where I might want a tablet computer, nor do I know any human being who has ever owned one.
Well... I guess I could imagine situations where a tablet would be handy. Maybe on a plane or other cramped space. (Though I'm not sure if I could deal with extended virtual-keyboard typing.) And sure there are industrial uses, e.g. some guy with a hardhat restocking a Costco warehouse. (But you probably want to give that guy a cheap PC or maybe Linux tablet so that if he drops it from the top of a ladder it's not a giant cost.)
Jobs must have something in mind. He's not above designing a niche product with modest sales expectations (e.g. Apple TV) but this doesn't seem like that kind of situation.
So, I dunno. I ask you: what normal human beings would want a tablet computer, let alone a spiffy-but-pricier Apple one?

 | 03:31 pm - 12.1 miles! Or: like Samantha Fox, I cannot distinguish between pleasure and pain Today's run, though only a mile or so longer than the last one, was far more tiring. No doubt partly due to the blazin' San Fernando Valley sun, throwing my recent Facebook boasts about SoCal weather, quasi-literally, back in my face. Also, my iPod had trouble syncing at the last moment, so I went without it. (This would have horrified Past Mike, who used music or podcast comedy as a kind of psychological crutch. But it turns you that if you run podlessly, you can pay attention to the world and talk to your friends.)
The absence of the pedometer, however, meant that I didn't have a good guess of how much further we had to go. So I had settled into that comfy reassurance of "we're nearly there" when in fact we were somewhere that could perhaps be considered nearly nearly there, but definitely not nearly there. Thus the constant internal mutterings of "How much further are we going to have to freaking go?" (Answer: still a while.)
Also, I have revised my prior cocky "Water? Pshaw!" stance. duckierose was kind enough to lend me one of the mini-canteens she wears on her belt like Aquaman would if he tried to imitate Batman. I alternated between drinking and spraying my head and back. The water pretty much vaporized instantly. Did I mention the heat?
Since I got back, I've been shuffling around like my future 90-year-old self. Any body motion meets an invisible resistance, like the air has been turned into jelly. It's sort of hard to think. Yet underlying the ache and fatigue is this mysterious contrarian euphoria that exercise brings. One week til half marathon!
